Project title
Intro
Meeting key goals within the company with a large-scale survey of associates about HR functions
Key words: qualtrics, survey, quantitative research
challenge
We were interested in finding new opportunities to improve the daily work process of HR specialist during hiring, onboarding, and supporting associates. I worked as one of the Researchers / Product Designers on the team.
I was officially part of the Product Design team, but 90% of my role was as a researcher, leading the survey development, analysis, and aligning the scope and results with company goals.
Company goals I helped support:
Increasing associate retention
Reducing time from application to hiring
Create a smoother onboarding experience
The Team
Our team was comprised of:
HR stakeholders - our internal “clients”
Product Manager
Sr. Product Designer Manager
Product Designers
User Research team members
Two different development teams (HR and Bot teams)
I collaborated with all of these members several times a week, and daily with the design team / design manager.

outcome
Part 1, the problem: How can we streamline the hiring process?
Problem statement: _________________________________________________
Due to the nature of in-store retail, there is high turnover in store associates
Also, high-level company goal to improve overall hiring process
Confirm need for HR chatbot assistant
Part 2, survey development
Upper management interest in looking at the entire process - from application to hiring, not just HR associates: FULL PICTURE.
Decided to launch survey for all different roles within company - in-store hourly, managers, HR associates, division roles, corporate associates, etc.
GOAL of survey: What is associates’ relationship with the HR process - application to hiring?
Part 3, expansion of scope:
As projects often do, we had to expand the scope of the survey to include questions about clock-in and related functions.
Decided to look at add HR clock-in in type of functions into scope of survey
Because issues with clocking in system is also an ongoing problem; could cooperate between two dev teams.
Part 4: Survey launches
Survey launches with 12 questions; open for 3 weeks for initial responses, but open for rolling responses.
20,000 responses after 3 weeks
Part 5: Analysis
Analysis begins!
Expected tasks -
high frustration with clock-in system
decided to forward this urgency to clock team
Part 6: Impact
